Main advantages of modulo 6

Performance

The future of building management systems in the age of the Internet of Things (IoT) demands reliable, very fast processing of large data quantities using devices of very small dimensions. The new generation of SAUTER automation stations are designed for precisely these challenges: modulo 6 provides unequalled performance in terms of data points per automation station, memory space and processing speed – all of this while taking up minimum space in the cabinet. The design and flexibility of the modulo 6 modules enables the provision of customised performance at optimised overall costs. From single-room control to a networked, globally distributed building cluster.

Integration

modulo 6 speaks the languages of the intelligent buildings of the future! modulo 6 knows the specialised communication protocols of the systems for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and energy (BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus, KNX, DALI, MBus etc). Our programming tools, based on many years of experience, integrate the widest range of systems to create a stable, secure overall system.

Security

As buildings are being connected to the Internet of Things and the cloud, the security of systems and networks is becoming a major challenge. modulo 6 had this protection built in from the outset. The automation station offers integrated network separation for internet and building technology. The encryption, authentication and access protection is now guaranteed by state-of-the-art technologies (TLS, IEC802.1X, etc.) and is soon to be ensured by the new “BACnet SC” (BACnet Secure Connect) security standard. The modulo 6 security concept is based on the new international standard for Cyber Security for Industrial Automation, IEC 62443, and defines the achieved security level for networks and system components. We also provide recommendations for additional measures with which the security level can be increased.

User-friendliness

modulo 6 can be operated intuitively! It connects via Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet. An intuitively operated app enables access to measured values, control variables and system parameters. As an alternative to smartphone operation, modulo 6 also has a local operating unit (LOI) with a high-resolution graphical colour display. The LOI is compatible with all the available I/O modules and offers priority operation independently of the automation station as per EN ISO 16484-2, while also displaying measured values and output signals both numerically and graphically in real time.

IoT and Cloud

modulo 6 breaks with traditional thinking in terms of separate technical building systems! The new world of the “Internet of Things” (IOT) removes barriers to communication. This is why modulo 6 connects with the cloud and with IoTs just as naturally and securely as with the existing systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. The future building operator calls up the services of the management system from the cloud as required. However, they only pay for the functions and data that they actually need. The building management software previously operated locally on a server becomes obsolete, and the costs of local data centres and their operation are a thing of the past. This enables new strategies for the efficient use of buildings: Optimisation of the operation via analysis of building data in the cloud, cost reduction by using cloud services but also, for example, localisation and navigation of persons and things, information about the current level of usage for actuators and valves with predictive information about the expected serviceable life.

Investment protection

Despite state-of-the-art technology, buildings have life cycles of several decades. Using modulo 6 protects our customers’ investments by enabling the gentle refurbishment of existing systems. Old systems can be updated in budget-friendly stages without any interruptions. Additionally: Already developed control and regulation programs from the SAUTER modulo 5 system generation can also be used and expanded – they can not only run on modulo 6 but can complete their tasks in parallel and separately in new programs. Thus, modulo 6 is backwards compatible as regards programs and networks, integrates its own and third-party installations and also offers the link to the era of the cloud and IoT – ready for the future!
