Openness with full functionality
The first BACnet projects had the job of making process data from the automation stations available to the management level. However, we weren't satisfied with that. In view of the positive experiences that we had with the projects completed up to 2002, we took BACnet's object-orientated approach a step further and implemented some complex objects as follows:
- Trendlog (recording and portrayal of historical data)
- Schedule (time programme)
- Calendar (for special days and programmes)
- Loop
Use of existing network structures
The ideal BACnet projects are building complexes that are spread over a large area and are built or refurbished over a period of several years. In such cases, the existing network is usually used for transferring data that is provided and maintained by the operator himself.
BACnet uses network management services to broadcast to everyone. These cannot be processed by standard Ethernet routers for connecting different networks. The solution is called BBMD (BACnet Broadcast Management Device).
